The Chakra System – An Introduction
According to ancient traditions of numerous cultures and faiths there is a universal vital energy that can be found in all living beings. It is known by the Japanese as ‘Ki’ and by the Chinese as ‘Chi’ whilst in india it has always been referred to as ‘Prahna’.
These days this energy is called by many names from ‘life force energy’ and ‘bio energy’ to ‘primal energy’ and many more names. This energy is very subtle and modern science is only just touching on being able to measure it yet it can definitely be perceived and its manipulation is a principle factor in energy healing to which our bodies respond particularly well.
There are many energy points where this energy appears to be concentrated and enters and leaves our bodies. The points are in the shape of vortexes and are indeed our chakras. Apart from the 7 main chakras there are also quite a few minor ones. The word chakra originates from the ancient Sanskrit word which roughly translated means ‘wheel’ or ‘something that spins’, this is because the energy appears to flow through the vortexes in a spinning motion.
We have to let this natural universal energy flow in and out of our bodies at these chakra centers to keep a healthy balance since when the chakra centers are not open and spinning fully, then the body might start to manifest sickness and dis-ease.
The seven main chakra centers are situated at set points physically in our bodies or in our subtle energy bodies or aura. In order for us to keep balanced both physically and mentally is is good to maintain your chakras open and rotating.
Every one of the chakras has its particular vibration and will react to external stimulus in the form of sympathetic vibrations by opening and rotating faster with more ease. The vibrations that the chakras will respond to best are sound and color. The vibration of the chakra itself is really high but as every color has its own wavelength and frequency and every one of the seven colors of the rainbow coincides with the lower harmonics of every one of the chakras. Musical notes are also able to stimulate the chakras with a note being again a lower harmonic of the vibration of the chakra itself.
In effect each color and every musical note will stimulate a particular chakra. The chakras are also responsive to the subtle vibrations that are inherent in quartz crystals and to a certain respect in other gemstones too. Each chakra consequently has its own related gemstone that can stimulate it and help to activate it.
When we have one or more of our chakras blocked or better said, not rotating at the pace they should be then our bodies and minds will also be blocked and it can be the cause of many other apparently non related physical and mental conditions. It can be really simple for an energy healer to balance the chakras and for the body to start to heal itself as a result. You can also open and balance your chakras by means of easy meditation exercises.
This is a short list of each chakra with the colors to which it responds and the aspects to which it is related.
Root Chakra – Red – Related to survival and primal energy
Sacral Chakra – Orange – Related to joy and life
Third Chakra (Solar Plexus) – Yellow – Associated with your Personal Power
Heart Chakra – Green or Pink – Love and matters of the heart
Fifth Chakra (Throat) – Blue or Turquoise – Related to self expression and communication
Third Eye Chakra – Indigo – Clairvoyance, foresight, Insight and Self realization
Crown Chakra- Violet, White or Golden – Related absolutely to your spiritual connection
I plan to discuss the corresponding colors, gemstones and musical notes of all of the chakras individually in future articles.
For a short Chakra Balancing Exercise I have made a video which can be found at the Chakra Balancing web site. The exercise with its original music will help you to open and balance your own chakras. There is also the Album Healing Chakras which has been designed to open and stimulate your chakras.
